URBSEC lunch seminar
Jörgen Lundälv is Associate Professor at the Department of Social Work, University of Gothenburg; and Charlotta Thodelius is a PhD Candidate at the Department of Architecture, Chalmers University of Technology.
The research project Risk Group Analysis and Case Studies of Accidents in Home Environments studies risk exposure and accident-types for accident-prone groups such as children and youth, elderly, long-term-ill, and physically impaired. The aim is to develop knowledge of accidents seen as spatially specific, with the objective to contribute to better prevention. In January this year, the presenters met with ten members from nine different disability organizations, including people with chronical diseases and impairments. The meetings were part of the project’s ambition to make research more participatory with the intention to compare a) expert opinions about risks, accidents, and prevention; with b) actual prevention measures taken; and with c) the experiences, knowledge, and awareness of those exposed to accidents. The goal is to suggest improved mitigation strategies and designs in residential environments. The first results from the January meetings will be presented in the seminar.
